House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain and Tom Schatz, president of Citizens Against Government Waste, published an op-ed in the Washington Examiner on Apr. 14 to highlight the impact of the Working Families Tax Cuts. The column focuses on how these tax cuts align with America’s founding principles and provide relief for working families.
The topic is significant as it addresses ongoing concerns about taxation levels for working Americans and emphasizes a return to foundational values of liberty and personal empowerment.
In their column, McClain and Schatz wrote, “When President Donald Trump signed the Working Families Tax Cuts into law on July 4, it was more than a legislative achievement. It was a recommitment to our founding values of liberty and putting power back into the hands of the people. It was a line in the sand: Keep your hands off Americans’ paychecks…” They added that Americans are now experiencing tangible benefits from this policy change: “Now, Americans are reaping the benefits, taking home tax refunds that are 11 percent higher on average than last year…”
The op-ed further stated, “With the Working Families Tax Cuts, we cut waste and threw excess taxes overboard. In doing so, Trump and congressional Republicans have kick-started America’s next 250 years by returning power (and money) to the people once again.”
McClain has represented Michigan’s 9th district in Congress since replacing Paul Mitchell in 2021 according to Wikipedia. She was born in Stockbridge, Michigan in 1966 and currently lives in Bruce as reported by Ballotpedia. McClain graduated from Northwood University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1997 according to Congress.gov.
As debate continues over tax policy at both federal and state levels, observers will be watching how measures like these influence future legislation aimed at supporting American families.
