House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain joined the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Orion Substation for a patrol on May 12 in recognition of National Police Week.
The visit highlighted the work of local law enforcement and their role in supporting the community, especially during challenging times. McClain said, “Thank you to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Miehlke for bringing me along and showing me what our law enforcement officers do every day. These men and women do not just respond when things go wrong. They help hold our communities together during difficult moments, including the water crisis families in Orion Township are facing right now. I also heard firsthand how No Tax on Overtime is helping officers who are putting in extra hours to keep our communities safe. House Republicans will always back the men and women in uniform who protect and serve.”
During her visit, McClain met with deputies to thank them for their service before joining Deputy Miehlke on a patrol ride-along through Orion Township. While on patrol, Deputy Miehlke conducted two traffic stops related to violations of Michigan’s Hands-Free Driving Law concerning texting while driving.
National Police Week runs from May 10 through May 16 this year, with Peace Officers Memorial Day observed on May 15. The week honors law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice as well as those who continue serving their communities.
McClain is currently serving in Congress representing Michigan’s 9th district after replacing Paul Mitchell in 2021, according to U.S. House of Representatives. She was born in Stockbridge, Michigan in 1966 and currently lives in Bruce; she graduated from Northwood University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
