House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain joined House Republicans on May 13 to highlight legislation supporting law enforcement officers and reaffirm the party’s commitment to public safety during National Police Week.
The event underscored the importance of recognizing and backing police officers, especially in light of recent challenges faced by law enforcement. McClain said that House Republicans are not only expressing support for police with words but also taking legislative action.
“Because while too many Democrats demonize police officers, excuse violent criminals, and side with chaos, Republicans are standing with the men and women who put on the badge and walk toward danger every single day,” McClain said. She added that bills would be brought to the floor this week aimed at supporting law enforcement and enhancing community safety.
McClain paid special tribute to Deputy Sheriff Bradley Reckling from Romeo, Michigan. “Deputy Reckling, from my hometown of Romeo, Michigan, was a nine-year veteran of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. In 2024, he was ambushed and murdered in the line of duty, leaving behind his wife, three young daughters, and a baby on the way,” she said. “Deputy Reckling stood between violent criminals and innocent people. And he is exactly why we must Back the Blue.”
She recounted participating in a ride-along with Deputy Miehlke of Oakland County earlier in the week: “We talked about House Republicans’ push for No Tax on Overtime and the difference it is making for officers and their families.” She noted how families continue to worry each time an officer leaves for work: “That fear never fully goes away for police families.”
McClain emphasized her stance against those who criticize law enforcement: “And yet too many on the Left continue attacking the very people who stand between law and order and chaos.” She concluded by stating: “This week, House Republicans are proud to honor our law enforcement officers and proudly say: We support the men and women in blue.”
