House Republicans have advanced two legislative measures aimed at enhancing border security and public safety. The bills, passed on June 26, 2025, seek to address concerns related to immigration and national security.
The first piece of legislation, H.R. 875, known as the Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act, mandates the deportation of non-U.S. nationals who commit DUI offenses and prohibits their re-entry into the United States. This measure is designed to enhance public safety by preventing repeat offenses.
The second bill, H.R. 275, titled the Special Interest Alien Reporting Act, requires the Department of Homeland Security to issue monthly reports on non-citizens attempting illegal entry who may pose threats to national security. The goal is to improve transparency in assessing potential risks.
Lisa McClain (R-Mich.), Chairwoman of the House Republican Conference, expressed her support for these initiatives: “House Republicans continue taking decisive action to restore the rule of law at our borders and put the safety of American citizens first,” she stated. “I was proud to support these two critical bills that ensure dangerous individuals cannot exploit the immigration system or harm Americans and our communities. Michigan families, and all Americans, deserve leaders who will stand up for law, order, and national security.”
