House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain has announced the winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for Michigan’s 9th Congressional District. Lillia Weiss, a senior at Lake Orion High School, was recognized for her piece titled “Meemaw’s Mirror.” Her artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year alongside other winners from congressional districts across the country.

Chairwoman McClain expressed admiration for the submissions this year, stating, “Every year, I’m inspired by the talent and creativity of our young artists, but this year was truly exceptional.” She highlighted that there were more entries than ever before and praised the vibrant arts community in her district. “It’s clear the arts are alive and thriving in our communities,” she added.

The competition received over 450 submissions from 26 schools within the district. Students presented a diverse range of artworks including paintings, photography, mixed media, and digital designs. A panel consisting of local artists and art educators selected Weiss’s work as the winning entry.

The Congressional Art Competition is an annual event aimed at recognizing and encouraging artistic talent among high school students nationwide. To honor all participants and celebrate their contributions to art in the district, Chairwoman McClain hosted an awards ceremony at St. Clair County Community College.
