U.S. Representative Lisa McClain, who has represented Michigan’s 9th district since 2021, posted a series of statements on her social media accounts over the weekend addressing economic concerns, agriculture, and the ongoing government shutdown.
On October 11, McClain criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for his comments about the state of the economy. She wrote: “Chuck Schumer told struggling Americans that ‘Every day is getting better’…for him, maybe! But not for a lot of hardworking families. Just ask Cynthia.”
The following day, in recognition of National Farmers Day and highlighting the importance of agriculture to her district in Michigan—especially “across The Thumb” region—McClain expressed gratitude to farmers. On October 12 she stated: “In MI-09 — especially across The Thumb — agriculture isn’t just part of our economy, it’s a way of life. Today, on National Farmers Day we say thank you to the men and women who get up before sunrise, work in every kind of weather, and keep our nation running.”
Later that same day, McClain addressed Senate leadership again amid a federal government shutdown. She posted: “Chuck Schumer, Darcy has something to say to you: REOPEN THE GOVERNMENT NOW.”
Lisa McClain was born in Stockbridge, Michigan in 1966 and currently resides in Bruce at age 57. She graduated from Northwood University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1997. After replacing former Congressman Paul Mitchell in 2021 as representative for Michigan’s 9th district, she has remained active on issues affecting her constituents—including those related to economic policy and local agriculture.
