Matt Maddock, a Michigan state representative, posted a series of critical statements on his social media account on February 19, 2026. The tweets address federal meat inspection processes, taxation policies, and upcoming elections in Oakland County.
In one post from February 19, Maddock questioned the legitimacy of federal oversight in food safety: “The whole @USDA inspection process is a scam that artfully increases the cost of meat in the name of more democrat guberment jobs.”
Later that day, he commented on government taxation powers: “Communists would tax your thoughts if they could.” (February 19).
In another message posted shortly after, Maddock urged constituents to participate in an upcoming election and expressed concern over local political leadership: “This is going to happen. Communists running Oakland County want more of you and your kids. It will be a hidden May election. Contact your clerk and get on the permanent absentee ballot list so you get a ballot to remind you to vote. Tell your Republican friends.” (February 19).
Maddock has previously used social media platforms to criticize both federal agencies and local officials, particularly those affiliated with the Democratic Party or progressive policies. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) conducts inspections intended to ensure food safety across the country—a practice periodically scrutinized by various public figures for its regulatory impact and associated costs.
Oakland County has seen political contention over election administration and participation rates in recent years, with some local leaders advocating for expanded absentee voting options as part of broader efforts to increase turnout.
