Matt Maddock, a Michigan state representative, posted several tweets on February 20, 2026, expressing concerns about rising utility rates and urging voters to participate in upcoming elections.

In a tweet from the early morning of February 20, Maddock stated: “I’m seriously considering my own Lister Petter diesel powerplant for our home with these communist rate increases. We are paying 3x what we should be paying.” He criticized recent increases in utility costs and suggested exploring alternative power sources for his household.

Later that day, Maddock offered voting advice to his followers: “Freedom Friday Pro TipGet on the permanent absentee ballot list today. Communists will have all kinds of tax increases on the hidden May ballot. Doing this reminds you to vote.” In this message, he encouraged voters to join the permanent absentee ballot list as a reminder to participate in elections where tax-related measures may appear.

Shortly after, Maddock added another post: “Communists always get paid well.”

These statements come amid ongoing debates over energy policy and taxation in Michigan. Utility rate hikes have been a source of public concern in recent years, with some residents facing higher monthly bills due to infrastructure investments and regulatory changes. In Michigan, local governments often place millage or tax proposals on ballots during less-publicized election dates such as those in May.

Matt Maddock has previously been known for his outspoken positions on fiscal policy and government transparency as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives.
