Matt Maddock, a Michigan state representative, used his X (formerly Twitter) account to criticize recent actions by the Whitmer administration in a series of posts published on September 4 and 5, 2025.
In a post from September 4, Maddock alleged excessive government hiring practices within the current administration: “Another government scam: Whitmer admin has hired thousands of needless assistants to assistants assisting assistants. Akin to a State Rep hiring 6 more staff on top of the 2 we already have and to make it worse, 80% are still working from home.”
On September 5, Maddock continued his criticism with another post stating: “Here’s a beauty. Gov bailed out a private hunt club.” He did not provide further details regarding the bailout or its circumstances in the tweet.
Later that day, he commented on what appears to be an ongoing process involving federal funding: “They better get on it if they want federal money lol” The context for this statement was not elaborated upon in the tweet.
Maddock’s remarks come as Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s administration faces ongoing scrutiny over state staffing levels and remote work policies. In recent years, there has been increased debate among Michigan lawmakers regarding both public sector employment practices and transparency around government spending decisions.
