Matt Maddock, a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, posted several statements on his X (formerly Twitter) account on August 7, 2025. The tweets touched on issues related to energy efficiency and funding for certain organizations.

In one post at 00:04 UTC, Maddock wrote, “Defund these kommies too.”

A few minutes later at 00:08 UTC, he shared two links without additional commentary: “https://t.co/S0kKONtFh6 https://t.co/Z7kNXaGX0C”

At 00:17 UTC, Maddock commented on energy savings associated with LED lighting and its impact on utility companies. He stated, “Switching all our lights to LED saves @ConsumersEnergy and @DTE_Energy about a billion dollars a year or 350 a household. Have your rates gone down 350 a year or up since you switched to LED?”

Maddock has previously voiced concerns about utility costs in Michigan. According to public records, Consumers Energy and DTE Energy are the two largest electric utilities in the state and have both promoted energy efficiency initiatives such as switching to LED lighting as cost-saving measures for consumers. However, some customers have reported that their bills have not decreased proportionally after adopting LEDs.

The conversation around utility pricing and energy efficiency continues in Michigan’s legislative discussions, where lawmakers like Maddock have questioned whether consumer savings from efficiency upgrades are being passed on by major utility providers.
