Michigan State Representative Matt Maddock posted a series of tweets on August 10, 2025, criticizing public sector salaries and alleged misuse of taxpayer funds.

In his first tweet at 14:14 UTC, Maddock stated, “Lots of administrators make 200k a year and retire at 50 making 199k”.

Later that day at 14:22 UTC, he provided information for the public to verify government salaries, writing, “You can see how much anyone in guv makes here. Teechers and administrators and superintendents. It will blow your mind when you see how much sups make.

At 16:59 UTC on the same day, Maddock criticized Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson for her handling of state funds. He tweeted, “This is reckless abuse of 775,000 tax dollars by @JocelynBenson and if she’s governor, she’ll lottery off more tax money to her friends https://t.co/1Ai0VWzySw”.

Public scrutiny over government employee compensation has been an ongoing issue in Michigan. Salary transparency tools are available online for residents to review earnings of state employees such as teachers and administrators. In recent years, concerns have also been raised regarding oversight of state expenditures and the use of taxpayer funds by elected officials.
