State Representative Matt Maddock commented on rising road construction costs and project timelines in a series of posts on August 10, 2025.
In his first post, Maddock stated, “Roads cost 3x as much as they did 6 years ago. And they take 4x as much time to build because road builders can’t hire enough ppl to work more than one shift.” (August 10, 2025). He raised concerns about the increased financial and time investments required for infrastructure projects compared to previous years.
Later that evening, Maddock posed a question regarding personal income growth: “How much you make today if you doubled your take home in 8 years?” (August 10, 2025).
In a third post, Maddock referenced a specific infrastructure initiative: “The 696 project should be done in 4 months. I remember road crews always working 24/7 with massive lights.” (August 10, 2025).
These comments come amid broader national discussions about inflation and workforce shortages affecting public works projects. Many states have reported increased construction costs and delays due to labor market constraints and supply chain disruptions since the COVID-19 pandemic.
