Matt Maddock, a Michigan state representative, made several statements on March 31, 2026, via his Twitter account alleging large-scale corruption involving government officials and land sales related to Gotion.
In a tweet posted at 11:51 a.m., Maddock questioned the motivations behind recent land transactions: “Question. Can you blame the owners for selling their 5,000 an acre land for 90,000 an acre to Gotion using tax dollars? There were many millionaires made on this scam.”
Later that day at 1:41 p.m., he further claimed: “We literally have people inside government stealing from us on a scale 100 times larger than the biggest bank heist.”
Minutes afterward at 1:44 p.m., Maddock escalated his allegation by stating: “We literally have people inside government stealing from us on a scale 10,000 times larger than the biggest bank heist in history. https://t.co/hx28G48V8w”
Maddock’s remarks refer to controversy surrounding Gotion Inc.’s plans for development in Michigan. The company has been involved in purchasing farmland at significantly increased prices as part of its expansion efforts. These transactions have drawn scrutiny due to the use of public funds and concerns about transparency and oversight in how taxpayer money is allocated for such projects.
Gotion Inc., a Chinese battery manufacturer with operations in Michigan, has faced ongoing debate regarding its investments and incentives received from state authorities. Critics have raised questions about foreign ownership and economic impact as well as environmental considerations associated with large-scale industrial developments.
