Michigan State Representative Matt Maddock posted on his X account on March 6, 2026, about the halt of a bridge reconstruction project in Mendon, Michigan. Maddock reported that the state government stopped work on the bridge after an environmentalist discovered a bird nest near the site.

In his first post at 17:55 UTC, Maddock stated, “BREAKING Michigan government stops bridge project cuz environmentalist found a bird nest 200 yards from the bridge.”

He followed up four minutes later with additional details: “The state is rebuilding this bridge in Mendon MI. The bridge is closed. Taxpayers spent 50,000 on an “environmental study” and found a Cerulean Warbler nest 200 yards from the bridge. State halts construction because the “construction noise” might bug the bird and state won’t” This post indicated that $50,000 was allocated for an environmental study which identified a Cerulean Warbler nest approximately 200 yards away from the construction zone. According to Maddock, concerns over potential disturbance to the bird due to construction noise led to suspension of work.

Later that day at 18:03 UTC, Maddock commented on changes to X’s dark mode settings: “With the update, you cannot switch just x in dark mode. You have to turn your whole phone into dark mode now to view x in dark mode which I love.”

Bridge projects across Michigan often require compliance with both federal and state environmental regulations when protected species are present or suspected nearby. The Cerulean Warbler is considered a species of conservation concern due to declining populations across its range.
