A new budget should soon be headed to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s desk without her suggested 45-cent per gallon gas tax hike, according to one Michigan lawmaker.
In a Sept. 6 press release, Rep. Sue Allor (R-Wolverine) said the spending plan would be “taxpayer-conscious” and is likely to clear several milestone committee meetings this past week.
The state has a constitutionally mandated deadline of Tuesday, Oct. 1 to end the impasse.

As a Republican member of the state legislature serving on the House Appropriations Committee, Allor’s input extends most notably to plans relating to the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy.
Besides record funding levels for schools and roads, the budget Allor and her colleagues are creating would address environmental concerns, including clean water.
“I urge the governor to sign it when it reaches her desk,” Allor said of the budget.
