Oxford Charter Township recently issued the following announcement.
Congratulations! Welcome to the team!
Longtime resident Robert L. Turner was appointed to the Oxford Township Planning Commission. His term will begin on Jan. 1, 2022 and expire on Dec. 31, 2024.
Turner and his wife, Beverly, have lived on a 15-acre spread along Delano Rd. in the northeast part of the township for almost 19 years. They owned the property for 15 years before deciding to build a house and barn on it.
“We like the peace and quiet. We like country life,” he said.
Turner is retired and spends his time raising hay and collecting antique John Deere tractors. He owns six tractors built between 1939 and 1955. The oldest was owned by his father.
No stranger to the area, Turner grew up in Orion and graduated from Lake Orion High School in 1960. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Lawrence Technological University. Turner worked at General Motors for 43 years. He spent the last 12 years of his career as manager of engine design operations and product engineering at GM Powertrain. Turner and his wife have been married for 57 years.
Voters in Oxford Township’s Precinct 5 may recognize Turner. He has served as an election inspector since 2010.
