Letters of support for proposed Oxford Farmers Market due by Monday, Jan. 10

Reminder

Oxford Charter Township issued the following announcement on Jan 7.

Reminder -- Letters of support for proposed Oxford Farmers Market due by Monday, Jan. 10

If you’re in favor of establishing a new farmers market in Seymour Lake Township Park, please write a letter of support for the project and send it to Oxford Township Communications and Grants Manager C.J. Carnacchio. Please email your letters to ccarnacchio@oxfordtownship.org.

Oxford Township Parks and Recreation is applying for a grant to help fund the construction of a 40-foot-by-100-foot, open-air pavilion in Seymour Lake Park. This pavilion would provide a permanent, dedicated space for a new farmers market. The market would be open on Saturdays and run from spring through fall.

The new farmers market would:

• Make fresh, nutritious, locally grown food more accessible.

• Promote and strengthen local farms and businesses by giving consumers a convenient, centralized place to purchase their products.

• Foster a sense of community by providing a festive place to shop, socialize and forge relationships.

• Provide another outlet for distributing free, fresh produce harvested from Oxford's community garden to people experiencing food insecurity.

The proposed farmers market pavilion is expected to become a focal point for the community, a place brimming with life and bustling with activity, a place that represents the very best that Oxford has to offer.
