The City of Rochester Hills, the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) and Oakland University have completed the first phase of a study to determine the future of the Adams Road corridor from Hamlin Road to Walton Blvd. in the City. 

The public engagement and visioning results summary for phase one of the study can be found at mksk.mysocialpinpoint.com/visioningadamsroad/visioning-adams-road-page-1. Phase one included a public workshop (on Oct. 20), 11 stakeholder meetings, solicitation of comments and an online survey. 

The next phase of the study will include a public workshop in late spring, with details to be announced soon. The workshop will focus on reviewing the project’s purpose and needs with input from the public.   

An additional public workshop will be held in the winter/spring of 2024. The final steps will be presenting the plan followed by a public hearing for the environmental assessment; both meetings are expected to occur in 2025.     

The study is funded by a $2 million federal Better Utilizing Investment to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant. It includes the Planning and Environmental Linkage (PEL) study that is currently underway and subsequent Environmental Assessment (EA) of the corridor. RCOC and the City of Rochester Hills are splitting the required local match of $500,000 to complete the study.

The study started in 2021 and is expected to take up to four years to complete. 

Through the study, stakeholders will shape the future plans for the corridor, which could include doing nothing or making improvements to the corridor.
