A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Oakland County Election Division on February 5, 2025. The request, made by Pontiac Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought information about the candidates running in the upcoming election.
We at Pontiac Times requested a list of all candidates participating in the forthcoming election under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq. The information requested includes candidates' first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation of each candidate; and their contact information including address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to this information is crucial for our work. It enables us to provide our readers with comprehensive coverage of local governmental affairs. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
