The effects of COVID-19 are being felt around the country, with the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) being no different.
Through the federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) fund, the MDE is aiming to get $390 million meant for coronavirus relief, according to MI Headlines.
ESSER has released $13.2 billion for the elementary and secondary schools affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic around the United States.
Speaking to news agencies, Dr. Michael Rice, the Michigan Superintendent, said the funds would help ease the students' and school staffs' needs during this challenging time.
The districts have been experiencing a digital divide, with some schools having proper technology that facilitates learning, and Dr. Rice has collaborated with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to address this divide. Dr. Rice believes that the funds will help narrow the gap and improve online learning during this pandemic period.
ESSER has yet to approve the application.
