Pontiac Regional Chamber issued the following announcement on June 9.
Oakland County is planning to make available $35 million in grants to help low-income residents and minority-owned businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic
In May, the county received $219 million in federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act dollars to help with its coronavirus response efforts. To date, the county has appropriated over $75 million to address the pandemic and to create several grant programs aimed at helping businesses, residents, local governments, and non-profit organizations.
Two more grant programs are currently being considered by the board of commissioners. This includes $30 million to create the Oakland Together Financial Assistance Program to help low-income residents with overdue rent, mortgage, and utility payments and food assistance in the form of food vouchers and another $5 million to create the Minority-Owned Small Business Grant Program to help minority-owned small businesses.
