Rochester Community School District recently issued the following announcement.
Rochester Community Schools was honored to welcome U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh to tour the district’s RCS Caring Steps Children's Center. The secretary listened intently to the stories of working mothers about the need for affordable child care.
“We are very proud of this facility and the employees who worked through the pandemic," said Superintendent Dr. Robert Shaner. "We are happy to serve families, but the truth of the matter is that we have a waiting list for our children’s center. The holdup is labor – having enough caregivers so we can fill the center to capacity and provide families with high-quality, affordable child care.”
"We need to do better," Secretary Walsh said.
