Rochester Community School Update

1

Rochester Community School District recently issued the following announcement.

Our hearts remain heavy as we reflect on the tragedy that occurred at Oxford High School. Please continue to keep the victims and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

We are truly grateful for the acts of care and compassion that have been modeled by our school community during this past week. Please do not underestimate the power of your kindness and grace; it can be a source of courage and strength for a friend or neighbor who may be struggling with the realities of the current events.

Professional supports and resources are available to help in times of crisis. Please visit the RCS website for more information. If you need immediate assistance this weekend, please contact your building administrator.

We realize that safety is not always convenient, but we are committed to doing everything within our control to protect our students, staff, and guests.

Our staff is currently reviewing district safety and security procedures by watching a presentation with Rochester Police Officer Amy Drehmer and the RCS Executive Director of Technology Cindy Lindner to ensure that safety remains at the forefront of all decisions.

An updated list of frequently asked questions can be found at: https://www.rochester.k12.mi.us/academics/safety-securty.

Once students return to our buildings, they can anticipate sharing in many of their normal routines, with a few minor adjustments:

• Buildings will have an enhanced visible security presence with the support of local law enforcement and our Safe Ed colleagues.

• Entrance and egress access points will be limited so we can better monitor who is in the building.

• Visitors will be limited in our schools.

• High school campuses will be closed during lunch hours.

One thing that will always remain constant is the deep devotion that we have for our students. We are so incredibly grateful to all staff members who are prepared to welcome our children back to the buildings on Monday, Dec. 6, 2021.
