Rochester Hills Kicks off Green Schools Program

City of Rochester Hills issued the following announcement on Apr 8.

Donate Your Points to Raise Funds for Schools

Now until May 4th, Rochester Hills residents can turn their Recyclebank points into real money for local schools. The Green Schools Program offers Rochester Hills schools the opportunity to implement projects that encourage or support sustainable practices.

For every 250 points donated, the school of their choice will receive one dollar. Every donation makes a difference. To date, Recyclebank has given over $120,000 to Rochester Community Schools.

“What’s great about this program is its simplicity,” states Mayor Bryan K. Barnett. “With just a few clicks, we can make these green student proposals a reality for our kids.”

This year, five schools applied for the Recyclebank grants.

Brewster Elementary - Outdoor Learning Space

Hart Middle School - Compost Program

Rochester High School - Grow Tower and Vertical Living Walls for Student Spaces.

Stoney Creek High School - Community Garden

Meadow Brook Elementary - Butterfly Garden

Throughout the year, residents put their recyclable items in the green recycling bin. As they recycle, points are earned that can be used for different rewards like a month of unlimited yoga at Red Lotus, a free gallon of milk from Hollywood Market, or 30% of an order at Clean Juice. However, for just one month a year, residents can choose to donate these points to the school of their choice and help them achieve their fundraising goals.

“RecycleBank and Recycle Track Systems (RTS) are committed to assisting communities as we all work together towards creating a world without waste. We’re thrilled to provide funding for this year’s Green Schools initiative and have been truly impressed with the quality and potential impact of all the submitted projects,” states RTS’s Vice President Chris Sikora.
