A boys' athletic team was recognized for their achievements this year at a recent Bloomfield Hills school board meeting.

Trustee Paul Kolin said the Bloomfield Hills Schools tennis team was highly skilled and it showed on the court where at one point in the season the squad won 149 out of the 150 individual matches, which was “an incredible feat.”

“So one of the things we pride as a district is high expectations and achieving, obviously, those high expectations as well. And I think the boys tennis team is a tribute to that. I think the biggest problem that the team had all year is they have so much talent in terms of the ability that they have on this team,” Kolin said. “But with that said, as we all know and people who follow sports and everyone knows, I follow a lot of sports. Just because you have a lot of talent, just because you have high expectations doesn't mean you necessarily you're going to take it all, win the state championship or win, you know, at a high school level, a state championship. But I think what was great about this team is, again, (at the) beginning of the year, high expectations. And then, you know, if you followed them, which I did throughout the year, it was incredible that the high expectations, as much as they were, they overachieved.”

The boys' tennis team not only had an incredible regular season, but also went through regionals with a dominant force to win the championship. They went into the two-day state championship and had all but one of their teams get into the semifinals on day two and before the day had ended they had earned enough points to win the tournament. They walked away with the state title easily

The team also won an academic accolade as a whole team for Division 1 in the Fall of 2022 along with the state title. Two of their seniors also received specific recognition for academic achievement: Drew Davis and Toni Vasile. The rest of the team included Malik Alabbas, Sam Basil, Jonah Chernett, Merrick Chernett, Michael Dillon, Ethan Endelman, Asher Langwell, Kierth Lingam, Dominic Pascarella, Ryan Rose, Pierce Shaya, and Daniel Stojanov.
