Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) has announced that the Macomb Interceptor Drain Drainage District will receive $1 million in funding for a utility rehabilitation project. The funds are provided through the Environmental Protection Agency.
“It is a privilege to fight for our communities every day in Washington, and I am pleased to help secure funding for Macomb County to improve its utility infrastructure for our citizens,” McClain stated. She added that with over 68 miles of sanitary lines in operation, the project aims to ensure the longevity, safety, and efficiency of the county's system.
Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice S. Miller emphasized the importance of this sewer rehabilitation project. “This major sewer rehabilitation project that we started a few years ago inside the interceptor that carries the sanitary sewage from 600,000 people is extremely important to reduce the risk of another sinkhole like the one that occurred on 15 Mile Road in December 2016," she said. "We’ve been able to get state and county money to help pay for this $13.5 million construction project, and now federal money as well. Thank you to Congresswoman McClain for her effort.”
The funding was secured through the FY 2022 Consolidated Appropriations Act and will support replacing a segment of the sewer system used by 11 communities within Macomb County.
