U.S. Representative Lisa McClain, who serves Michigan’s 9th district in Congress, used her social media platform on October 1, 2025, to criticize Democratic spending proposals and comment on the ongoing government shutdown.
In a post made at 17:39 UTC, McClain stated, "Democrats would rather put $1.5 trillion of your hard-earned money into radical pet projects, handouts for illegals, and climate schemes in foreign countries. Republicans are not going to let that happen."
Later the same day at 18:26 UTC, she continued her criticism by attributing responsibility for the government shutdown to Democrats. She wrote, "Democrats are holding the American people and our economy hostage to appease radical progressives. Let me be clear, this shutdown is the Democrats doing."
In a separate message posted at 21:01 UTC, McClain marked the beginning of Yom Kippur with a greeting: "As Yom Kippur begins, I wish all who are observing a meaningful fast and a day of reflection. May this sacred time bring renewal, forgiveness, and peace. G’mar Chatimah Tovah."
Lisa McClain has represented Michigan’s 9th district since 2021 after succeeding Paul Mitchell. Born in Stockbridge in 1966 and currently residing in Bruce, McClain earned her BBA from Northwood University in 1997.
