Chairwoman Lisa McClain, U.S. Congresswoman representing Michigan’s 9th district since 2021, has used her social media platform to highlight the impact of the ongoing government shutdown on Michigan’s economy and residents.

On October 4, 2025, McClain posted: "Every week the Democrat shutdown drags on, Michigan loses about $361 million in economic activity. It’s past time for Democrats to pass our clean bill and reopen the government."

The following day, she emphasized the effect on small businesses in her state. On October 5, 2025, McClain wrote: "Michigan’s small businesses are the backbone of our economy — but during a shutdown, $92 million in SBA loans and $237 million in federal contracts grind to a halt. Michigan’s senators need to end the shutdown."

On October 6, 2025, McClain focused on vulnerable populations affected by the shutdown: "Shutdowns hit the most vulnerable first. In Michigan, 189,000 moms and kids relying on WIC for nutritional support could lose access. Democrats need to stop using Michigan families as political pawns."

Lisa McClain was born in Stockbridge, Michigan in 1966 and currently resides in Bruce at age 57. She graduated from Northwood University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1997. Before joining Congress by succeeding Paul Mitchell in 2021, she built her career within Michigan communities.

The current government shutdown has drawn attention nationwide due to its effects on local economies and federal assistance programs.
