Chairwoman Lisa McClain, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Michigan’s 9th district since 2021, criticized Democratic lawmakers in a series of posts on October 8, 2025, regarding the ongoing government shutdown and its effects on veterans and families.
In her first post, McClain wrote, "A Michigan veteran earned his GI benefits but can’t use them because Democrats keep voting to keep the government shut down. That’s the real cost of their political games. Our heroes fought for this country. They shouldn’t have to fight Washington just to go to school." (October 8, 2025).
Later that day, she continued her criticism, stating, "Michigan moms get it: Republicans voted to keep the government open. Radical Democrats, like @SenGaryPeters and @SenatorSlotkin, have voted SIX TIMES to keep the government CLOSED. Why? Because their woke base is pulling the strings." (October 8, 2025).
In a subsequent post, McClain addressed the impact of the shutdown on military personnel and families: "Michiganders, your Senators are jeopardizing: -Pay for our troops -WIC benefits for moms and kids -Services for veterans 6 times now, they’ve voted to put illegals over YOU!" (October 8, 2025).
Lisa McClain, born in Stockbridge, Michigan in 1966 and currently residing in Bruce, has represented Michigan’s 9th District in Congress since replacing Paul Mitchell in 2021. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwood University, earned in 1997.
The debate over government funding has led to multiple votes in Congress, with Republicans and Democrats blaming each other for the ongoing shutdown and its consequences on federal services and benefits.
