Matt Maddock, a Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives, posted a series of tweets in October 2025 criticizing government spending, the U.S. Census, and Michigan’s governmental structure.

On October 12, 2025, Maddock wrote, "If the US communists didn’t get taxpayer dollars, they’d all starve ". The tweet reflects his ongoing criticism of government programs and funding, a stance he has expressed frequently as a state legislator.

The following day, Maddock continued his criticism of federal programs, focusing on the census. On October 13, 2025, he tweeted, "The census isn’t a count. It’s a scam that benefits the communists. Long read but worth it: https://t.co/goJVKYzx9Z https://t.co/y9rArxUWms".

Later on October 13, Maddock addressed Michigan’s property tax rates and the size of its government. He stated, "A big reason Michigan property taxes are so high is because we have 2,456 separate units of government and 886 school districts giving us the 13th largest government bureaucracy in the nation." According to public records, Michigan has a complex system of local governments and school districts, which has been cited as a factor contributing to administrative costs and higher property taxes.

Maddock’s posts reflect broader debates over the size and role of government in Michigan and the United States. As a state representative, Maddock has been known for his criticism of government bureaucracy and his calls for reducing government spending.
