U.S. Representative Lisa McClain, who serves Michigan’s 9th district, took to social media on October 16, 2025, to criticize a proposed $1.5 trillion spending package backed by Democrats and to address the potential for a government shutdown.
In a series of posts, McClain first shared a press event with the message: "House Republican Press Conference https://t.co/Nm4wdn1o4d" (October 16, 2025).
Later that day, she posted: "A government shutdown should NEVER be used to enact $1.5 trillion in wasteful spending. BUT that’s exactly what Democrats are trying to do! It’s shameful. https://t.co/AmrO68G3yH" (October 16, 2025).
That evening, McClain expanded on her criticism in another post: "Democrats’ $1.5 trillion spending package is a DIRTY DEAL for the American people. AND they’re using a shutdown to try and push through this wasteful spending. Joined the @stevegrubershow today to discuss this and more. Take a listen https://t.co/kSRQOWOqt4" (October 16, 2025).
Lisa McClain has represented Michigan’s 9th District in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Paul Mitchell. Born in Stockbridge, Michigan in 1966, McClain is currently 57 years old and resides in Bruce. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwood University in 1997.
