Chairwoman Lisa McClain, U.S. Congresswoman representing Michigan’s 9th district since 2021, used her social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and recent legislative actions by House Republicans and Democrats.
On October 20, 2025, McClain posted: "House Republicans passed a clean bill to keep the government open and continue working for the American people. Democrats are trying to leverage this shutdown to push through $1.5 trillion in reckless spending. That should NEVER happen."
Later that day, she continued her criticism of Democratic lawmakers with another post: "20 DAYS into the Democrat Shutdown, and Democrats have voted 12 times to shut down the government. They even voted NO on a separate bill to pay our troops. Plain and simple, they’re obstructionists." This tweet highlighted her stance on Democratic opposition during the prolonged budget standoff.
The following morning, on October 21, 2025, McClain shared an update about a press event: "House Republican Press Conference".
McClain, who was born in Stockbridge, Michigan in 1966 and currently resides in Bruce, has served in Congress since replacing Paul Mitchell in 2021. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwood University. As the shutdown continues, her statements reflect the broader partisan debate over federal spending and legislative priorities in Washington.
