On this date, October 18, 1972, the Clean Water Act was signed into law. The amended law established the basic framework for regulating the discharge of pollutants to lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands and for protecting our water resources.
It was during this same time when the Clinton River was once designated as one of the most polluted and unusable rivers in the state. However, due to the Clean Water Act and efforts by organizations and communities in the watershed, over the past several decades the Clinton River has become a clean and valuable water resource used by many! The river runs through several of our Green Spaces and parks including Innovation Hills and Bloomer.
