County of Oakland issued the following announcement on July 17.
Oakland County government is experiencing a phone system hardware malfunction that is affecting both its auto attendant and voicemail system. This means if an individual calls a county department, she or he may encounter a number that rings and rings without being able to leave a voicemail message.
Please note that the 911 system is working. Anyone who has an emergency will be able to reach an operator.
Calls to county departments during normal business hours (8:30am - 5:00pm) will be rerouted to a line with a live person answering. The county is working with its phone system vendor to resolve the problem.
