On July 23, LOCS explained to families and staff that facilities will be mask-optional for students and staff members, and the district will not use the daily Clear To Go screening process for the upcoming school year. In addition to those items, there are several additional categories Superintendent Ben Kirby presented to the Board of Education at the Wednesday, August 11 meeting. Those procedures are listed on this flyer, and are also posted on the LOCS website.

Mr. Kirby and the Administration have given all of these items thoughtful consideration, searching for appropriate mitigation strategies for the 2021-22 school year. Mr. Kirby continues to meet with health professionals and his Superintendent colleagues to discuss procedures. All of this information is part of the decision-making process as we meet the needs of the community of Lake Orion during this turbulent time.

The decisions were also made with the understanding that, as Oakland County Health Division provides guidance and requirements, the plans may need to adjust accordingly. We are aware of the MDHHS recommendations that were updated today, Friday, August 13. As with all recommendations, we will consider these in our decision-making process.

Moving forward into another school year, beginning September 7, the goal remains to provide students with the best in-person and Dragon Virtual learning experience, while offering families a choice for their child's educational journey.
