History to come alive in Oxford Twp. cemetery!
A fun and fascinating opportunity to learn all about Oxford’s pioneers is coming up on Sunday, Oct. 2. That’s when the Northeast Oakland Historical Society (NEOHS) will host its walking tour of the Oxford Twp. cemetery on the north side of W. Burdick St. The event will run from 1 to 4 p.m.
The tour’s theme is “Meet the Founders.” It will highlight the lives, deeds and achievements of the community’s 19th-century settlers. NEOHS members and volunteers dressed in period clothing will portray the pioneers and their relatives. Listen to their stories and help keep their memories alive.
Folks taking part in the tour will gather at the NEOHS Museum (1 N. Washington St.) in downtown Oxford. A shuttle will transport them to and from the cemetery. Tours will leave at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Each tour will last 60 minutes.
Tickets are $15 (cash or check only). They can be purchased the day of the tour or during regular museum hours on Thursday (1-4 p.m.). There will be free admission for kids under the age of 12.
This tour includes a lot of walking on uneven ground, so please be prepared and wear appropriate footwear.
