Over 600 smoke alarms installed!
On Saturday morning, four members of the Oxford Fire Department went door-to-door in Parkhurst Estates MHC spreading the word about the “Safety Begins at Home” program.
Under the program, the fire department has been installing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms, FREE of charge, in Oxford homes. Since May 2022, firefighters have installed 616 smoke alarms and 219 carbon monoxide alarms.
Led by Fire Marshal B.J. Frantz, today’s door-to-door team included Lt. Sarah Racer (fire inspector), Firefighter/Paramedic Ricky Dvorak and Kelly Kilgore, the department’s recruitment and retention manager.
“Safety Begins at Home” is open to Oxford Township and Village residents, particularly senior citizens (age 55 and older), individuals with disabilities and low-income earners.

Funding for “Safety Begins at Home” was provided by a $10,000 grant from the Four County Community Foundation and $12,850 in donations from North Oakland VFW Post 334, American Legion Walter Fraser Post 108, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 108, AMVETS Post 108, Curtis Insurance Agency, Counelis Agency – Farm Bureau Insurance, Rotary Club of Oxford, VTC Insurance Group (Oxford Agency), Carter Quality Hardwood Flooring, Inc., Swiss Insurance Group and the Oxford Lions Club.
