State Rep. Donni Steele, alongside her Republican and Democrat colleagues, introduced a bipartisan resolution condemning ongoing antisemitic hate in Michigan. Steele labeled May 2 as End Jew-Hatred Day in Michigan and stressed the importance of standing against hate towards the Jewish community.

Steele emphasized the need to reject those who spread hate towards Jewish individuals, particularly students in the state. She urged her colleagues in the House to unite in denouncing such acts of hate. Steele stated, "Jewish people, especially students, are facing heightened attacks across our state. It is our responsibility as an elected body to reject all those who choose to spew hate at our Jewish friends and neighbors."

The resolution comes in response to anti-Israel protests occurring on various Michigan campuses, including Michigan State University, Western Michigan University, and Northern Michigan University. Additionally, more than 120 students have gathered at the University of Michigan Diag for protests.

Steele acknowledged the fear and concern within the Jewish community and expressed her commitment to speaking up in defense of all communities she represents. She highlighted the importance of providing a safe environment for everyone and condemned radical protestors who threaten Israel and the Jewish community.

Reflecting on the broader context of anti-Jewish hate, Steele remarked, "All people deserve a safe place to live, work, go to school, and raise a family. As leaders, we must condemn small bands of radical protestors making blatant threats against Israel and all Jewish people."

The Michigan Senate had previously adopted a similar resolution, and Steele's resolution is set to be formally introduced during the upcoming session on Thursday.
