Matt Maddock, a Michigan state representative, posted a series of tweets on August 11, 2025, expressing concerns about communism and criminal justice policies in the United States.

In one tweet, Maddock wrote, "Communists everywhere are getting more aggressive." (August 11, 2025).

Later that day, he commented on bail reform and its impact in Washington D.C., stating, "In DC where they outlawed bail, their jails full and more than half the criminals never show up for court." (August 11, 2025).

Maddock also criticized a proposed mass transit project in Ann Arbor. He tweeted, "Ann Arbor Communist Party is bent on a 30 billion choo-choo-twain and split the profits with governent. There is nothing profitable for taxpayers in mass transit." (August 11, 2025).

Matt Maddock represents Michigan's 51st District in the State House. His comments reflect ongoing debates about public safety policies and infrastructure spending across the country. In recent years, discussions around bail reform have intensified nationwide as some jurisdictions move to eliminate cash bail systems in an effort to address inequities; however, critics argue these changes may contribute to higher rates of pretrial nonappearance.
