Chairwoman Lisa McClain, U.S. Congresswoman representing Michigan’s 9th district since 2021, has criticized Senate Democrats for their handling of government funding in a series of recent posts on her official social media account.
On November 7, 2025, McClain questioned the economic impact of the ongoing funding dispute, writing: "How many billions of dollars in economic losses must Michigan endure before Senate Democrats decide to FUND. THE. GOVERNMENT?!"
The following day, she addressed the effects on air travel and federal employees, stating: "Michiganders are stuck with longer security lines and delayed flights all because Democrats REFUSE to fund the government. Our TSA agents and air traffic controllers deserve better. America deserves better." Later that evening, McClain highlighted the consequences for recipients of federal assistance programs: "1.4 MILLION Michiganders rely on SNAP to put food on the table. Thanks to the Democrats holding the American people HOSTAGE, they have now gone two weeks without assistance. That’s simply disgraceful."
Lisa McClain was born in Stockbridge, Michigan in 1966 and currently resides in Bruce. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwood University in 1997. McClain succeeded Paul Mitchell as representative for Michigan’s 9th district.
Government shutdowns can lead to disruptions such as delays at airports due to reduced staffing and interruptions in federal benefits like SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), affecting millions who depend on these services.
