City of Rochester Hills issued the following announcement on Oct 29.
In the spirit of Halloween and based on the fact that this week is Bat Week, the international celebration of bats, here are some interesting facts about bats here in Michigan. Also the picture below is a picture taken from one of our Arborists earlier this year.
· Michigan is home to nine species of bats!
· Bats are flying mammals
· All of Michigan’s bats are insectivores, meaning they consume insects such as mosquitoes, beetles, moths and flies.
· Many bat species are in decline. One particular disease that is devastating to their populations recently is White-nose syndrome.
· You can help bats by planting bat-friendly gardens, installing bat-houses, and leaving trees with cavities where they may hibernate.
· Certain species of bats can morph into vampires during this week of the year and become increasingly active on Halloween. (this one may or may not be true).
