Join Mayor Bryan K. Barnett on the diamond as he is once again teaming up with Major League Baseball and the Rochester Avon Recreation Authority (RARA) to host a free Play Ball event.
Play Ball will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, at Earl E. Borden Park, and is open to boys and girls ages 7-14. Kids of all ages and ability levels are welcome and will engage in a variety of fun drills and activities..
“I have so many great memories from playing baseball in the summer and love being out there now as these kids make memories of their own,” said Mayor Barnett. “I’m looking forward to filling our fields with kids who are excited to learn more about baseball and softball.”
The Play Ball initiative is baseball’s collective effort to encourage young people and communities to engage in baseball- or softball-related activities. This event has become a popular tradition in the City and serves as an outlet for physical activity, fun with friends and a chance to learn how to play the sport at its most basic levels.
The Major League Baseball component is the Pitch, Hit & Run competition in which participants will be tested and their measurements will be recorded. Based on their scores, they will advance from a local event to Team Championship and then to the National Finals.
