Oxford Boy Scout Troop 366 is seeking sponsorships for the annual Wreaths Across America event on Saturday, Dec. 17 at Ridgelawn Memorial Cemetery (99 W. Burdick St.). The goal is to purchase 210 wreaths.
Each $15 sponsorship covers the cost of one wreath made of live greenery. For every two-wreath sponsorship ($30) received, the Wreaths Across America organization will donate a third wreath to Troop 366 as part of a three-for-two special.
Scouts and volunteers will begin placing wreaths at veteran gravesites in Ridgelawn at 11 a.m. A ceremony will follow at noon. The public is invited to place wreaths and attend the ceremony.
Sponsorship payments must be received by Monday, Nov. 28. Folks can pay online at wreathsacrossamerica.org/MI0055 or by check. Please make checks payable to “Troop 366” and mail them to LakePoint Community Church, 1550 W. Drahner Rd., Oxford, MI 48371. Write “Wreaths Across America” on the check's memo line.
People are welcome to sponsor a wreath for a veteran buried in Ridgelawn or elsewhere. However, it will be up to individual sponsors to place wreaths at graves in other cemeteries.
National Wreaths Across America Day consists of coordinated wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery and more than 3,400 other locations. The purpose is to remember U.S. veterans who are no longer with us, honor those who are currently serving in the military and teach children the value of freedom.
Ridgelawn Memorial Cemetery has been participating in this event since 2009.
