State Senator Michael Webber, a Republican from Rochester Hills, extended a warm welcome to Troy Mayor Ethan Baker and his wife Bethany at the Capitol for the governor's 2024 State of the State address. The senator's invitation was a gesture of appreciation for Mayor Baker's collaboration on an important infrastructure project.

Senator Webber was successful in securing a $10 million appropriation in the state's 2024 fiscal year budget for the construction of two sections of sound walls along I-75 in Troy. This achievement was the result of effective teamwork between Senator Webber, Mayor Baker, and concerned residents who expressed worries about increased noise pollution following the completion of upgrades to the interstate in 2015.

To further address the issue of sound barriers, Senator Webber introduced Senate Bill 643 in 2023. The bill aims to simplify the process for Michigan residents to access funding for sound barriers through the Michigan Department of Transportation. This initiative demonstrates Senator Webber's commitment to improving the quality of life for his constituents and ensuring their voices are heard.

In a statement, Senator Webber expressed his gratitude to Mayor Baker for his partnership in advocating for the needs of Troy residents. He said, "I am pleased to have Mayor Baker and his wife join me at the Capitol for the State of the State address. Their support and dedication to addressing the concerns of our community have been instrumental in securing funding for the sound walls along I-75. This project will greatly benefit the residents of Troy and alleviate noise pollution in the area."

Mayor Baker also expressed his appreciation for the collaboration with Senator Webber and the positive outcome it has yielded for Troy. He stated, "I want to thank Senator Webber for his tireless efforts in championing the cause of our community. The appropriation for the sound walls demonstrates his commitment to improving the quality of life for our residents. I am honored to be invited to the State of the State address and look forward to continued collaboration with Senator Webber."

The successful partnership between Senator Webber and Mayor Baker serves as an example of effective collaboration between state and local officials. By working together, they have been able to address the concerns of their constituents and ensure that the necessary funding is allocated to improve infrastructure and quality of life.

As Michigan residents eagerly await the governor's 2024 State of the State address, the presence of Senator Webber and Mayor Baker at the Capitol symbolizes the importance of cooperation and dedication in serving the needs of the community.
