Rep. Lisa McClain, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, has cast her vote in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025. This legislation outlines funding levels and priorities for military and national defense programs.
McClain stated, "With conflict raging around the globe, we must focus on producing the most lethal fighting force in the world, not woke ideologies that divide and distract our armed forces from their core mission." She emphasized that this year's NDAA includes strategic investments to prepare the nation against threats while also improving conditions for servicemembers and their families.
The FY25 NDAA introduces several measures:
- A 14.5% pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers.
- Support for National Guard troops assisting Border Patrol at the southern border.
- Elimination of DEI initiatives and a ban on gender-reassignment treatment for children.
- Strengthening defense efforts in the Indo-Pacific to counter Chinese aggression.
- Savings of $31 billion by cutting inefficient programs and outdated weapons.
Additionally, funding is allocated for projects within Michigan’s 9th District:
- Kratos will work on replacing engines in aerial targets.
- JVIS is tasked with creating advanced technologies for next-generation combat vehicles.
- GM Defense will procure infantry squad vehicles for the U.S. Army.
- General Dynamics is involved in improving Stryker Combat Vehicles.
- Honeywell will develop a next-generation engine for Abrams tanks.
- BAE Systems is set to procure armored multi-purpose vehicles.
- Riccardo Defense will produce combat vehicle safety kits.
- Michigan State University will develop autonomous infantry/ground vehicles.
