During National Police Week, House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) addressed the House floor to commemorate Deputy Sheriff Bradley Reckling. Reckling served with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office for nine years and died in the line of duty on June 22, 2024.
National Police Week is observed each May across the country to honor law enforcement officers' service and sacrifice. Chairwoman McClain expressed her sentiments, stating, "I rise today with a heavy heart to recognize the life and service of Deputy Sheriff Bradley J. Reckling."
Deputy Reckling was from Michigan's 9th District and was 29 years old at the time of his death. He left behind a wife and three daughters, with a fourth child expected. McClain emphasized the bravery of law enforcement officers: "As we mark National Police Week, we pause to honor the courage of those who wear the badge, the ones who run toward danger, and far too often, those who pay the ultimate sacrifice, like Deputy Reckling."
She further highlighted the risks faced by officers daily: "Every day, brave men and women put on their uniform and go to work knowing they may not come home." McClain called for more than just gratitude towards these individuals: "We owe these people more than just thanks. We owe them respect, admiration, and our unwavering support."
In closing her remarks, she urged her colleagues to remember Deputy Reckling's contributions: "I encourage my colleagues to do the same and to honor the life of Deputy Bradley Reckling." She concluded with an appreciation for law enforcement personnel: "May we always appreciate our men and women in blue."
