Matt Maddock, a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, published several posts on his X (formerly Twitter) account on July 15, 2025, expressing criticism of state institutions and policies.

Later that day at 17:53 UTC, Maddock posted: "The 3 ppl who set electric rates are hard left enviro-kommies. My electric rate has gone up 700% in 24 years. https://t.co/khQhzXeeL5".

At 17:55 UTC on the same day, Maddock added: "Communists teachers union refused to endorse him if he refused to create it. https://t.co/vBVfs4jvAH".

Maddock has been known for his outspoken positions on issues such as education policy and energy regulation in Michigan. The Michigan Public Service Commission regulates utility rates in the state, with commissioners appointed by the governor and confirmed by the senate. Over recent decades, electricity rates in Michigan have risen significantly due to various factors including infrastructure investments and shifts toward renewable energy sources.
