Matt Maddock, a Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives, made several statements on social media on August 12, 2025, addressing state government fiscal practices and transportation projects.

In his first post at 15:46 UTC, Maddock claimed that state officials regularly review tax revenues. He wrote, "Nobody knows this. 2x a year MI guberment meets to see how much more tax $ they are getting from us. The extra $ belongs to us but the guberment always gets it."

Later that day at 15:51 UTC, Maddock commented on proposed rail infrastructure connecting Traverse City and Ann Arbor. He stated, "They also want a train connecting leftist Traverse City to leftist A2. They should call it the Communist-Connector."

At 17:27 UTC, Maddock posted another message criticizing political opponents. He wrote, "Crime, chaos and starvation are 3 things kommies do best."

Traverse City and Ann Arbor have been considered Democratic strongholds in recent Michigan elections. Proposals for passenger rail service between these cities have received support from local officials as part of broader efforts to expand public transit options in the state.

The Michigan legislature conducts regular reviews of state revenue estimates through consensus revenue estimating conferences held twice annually. These meetings help determine available funds for budgeting purposes.

Maddock's comments reflect ongoing debates in Michigan over public spending priorities and partisan divisions regarding infrastructure projects and taxation.
