Matt Maddock, a Michigan state representative, posted several statements on his X (formerly Twitter) account regarding crime rates and education policies. His tweets included commentary on violence in major U.S. cities and referenced Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

On August 13, 2025, Maddock posted: "And they want your pre-k kids too. Ask @gretchenwhitmer https://t.co/gDNZDgKooM".

The following day, he commented on recent violence in Chicago: "Last weekend in Chicago, there were at least 34 ppl shot and as of today 5 died" (August 14, 2025).

Shortly after, Maddock cited Detroit's crime statistics: "In 2024, Detroit was the second most violent city in the USA with a population over 500k." (August 14, 2025).

Detroit has consistently ranked among the most violent large cities in the United States based on FBI data tracking violent crimes per capita. In recent years, efforts to address gun violence have been ongoing both locally and nationally. The issue of early childhood education policy has also been debated in Michigan under Governor Whitmer's administration.
