Matt Maddock, a Michigan state legislator, used his social media platform on August 28, 2025, to share several statements addressing fiscal policy and criminal justice in Michigan.

In an early post that day, Maddock wrote simply: "Common sense." (August 28, 2025).

Later in the morning, he addressed his constituents with a message about state finances: "Good Morning Michigan! Are you ready to cut 5 Billion in waste, fraud and abuse of our tax dollars?" (August 28, 2025).

In the afternoon, Maddock commented on Michigan’s bail bond system. He stated: "Michigan is a Scam Bail Bond State that favors criminals not victims. Almost all criminals are released on scam 10% Bail & only give the Court 10%. When they skip, the government is owed the remaining 90% but Judges never collect it and waste 100’s of million in tax dollars." (August 28, 2025).

Maddock has previously focused on issues related to government spending and criminal justice reform during his tenure as a lawmaker. The debate over bail practices in Michigan has been ongoing for years; critics argue that the current system allows defendants to pay only a fraction of their set bail—typically around ten percent—to secure release before trial. If these individuals fail to appear in court as required, the remaining balance is technically owed to the government. However, enforcement and collection of this balance have been inconsistent across jurisdictions.
